I thought the 26th of September was a doom's day for all of us here in the Philippines. I am so scared because the tropical storm Ketsana, locally known as Ondoy, damaged important cities in the Philippines. It was so strong that I thought our house would be carried by the wind. Thank god we are safe and still have our lives to start anew. But I feel so sorry for my fellow Filipinos who are so much affected by this typhoon especially Manila that was heavily battered by the storm.
At this time more that a 300 people died and more than 450,000 people were displaced. People in the evacuation centers are more likely to catch diseases because of their proximity to one another. I feel for these people. Our local community have mobilized relief operations to help those who are still trapped and need help.
Situations like this help make Filipinos share their concern through a concerted effort called Bayanihan. The lightness of Filipino spirit helps them survive such tragedy. You just can't stop seeing all those smiles even though they are confronted with a serious calamity. That's the Filipino spirit. Let us all pray for the recovery of our fellow countrymen. Take a look at these photos taken at the aftermath of the typhoon Ondoy.
